Healthy Communities
The Queensland Association for Healthy Communities Inc. (Healthy Communities) is a community-based, non-government health promotion organisation. Formed in 1984 to fight HIV/AIDS, the Queensland AIDS Council expanded its role in 2006 to address a wider range of health issues for all in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities, and renamed itself Queensland Association for Healthy Communities. Healthy Communities currently receives recurrent government funding for our HIV prevention and sexual health promotion work with gay men (including Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander gay men and sistergirls). All other activity (e.g. ageing, women’s health, trans health, history, community development, advocacy, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, counselling) is made possible by occasional one-off grants and volunteers, donations and sponsorships.

2 Spirits Program, Healthy Communities
The 2 Spirits Program is the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Program of the Queensland Association for Healthy Communities.
In 1996 the program was established as the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander HIV/AIDS Project (QATSIHAP), and in 2009 the name of the project was changed to “2 Spirits.” The term 2 Spirits refers to a person whose body simultaneously houses masculine and feminine spirits.
The 2 Spirits logo was also launched in 2009. Developed by Arone Meeks (current Health Promotion Officer in Cairns office), the logo features male and female images, along with the symbol of infinity. The colours of the logo reflect the colours of the rainbow, as well as colours featured in both the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island flags.
The 2 Spirits Project receives a majority of its funding from the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (OATSIH). The project is funded to provide services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander gay men and sistergirls. Covering the entire state of Queensland, the projects promotes healthy Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander gay men and sistergirl communities through sexual health promotion, campaigns, community outreach, education workshops, support and referrals.
The Project has staff in both the Brisbane and Cairns offices and can be contacted as follows:

HIV & HCV Education Projects, The School of Medicine, The University of Queensland
The HIV & HCV Education Projects is based within the School of Medicine, The University of Queensland and has been operating since the beginning of 1998. It is recognised at a state level, nationally and internationally as a centre of expertise in clinical education, facilitation, monitoring & evaluation and resourcing.
Originally the primary responsibility of the project was to design, develop, implement and evaluate courses for medical practitioners who wished to prescribe HIV antiretroviral therapies in Queensland, Australia. This remains a core component of the organisation. By 2003 the HIV & HCV Education Projects were providing clinical education, facilitation, monitoring & evaluation, and resourcing in its three core domains of HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health across a range of health disciplines including medical practitioners, nurses, dentists, allied health and community health workers.
Through both facilitation of their own activities, and through facilitation of workshops for other organisations, The HIV & HCV Education Projects have gained a reputation Australia wide as leading facilitators with experience gained to organising half, one to three day/s events.
Sustainability of education has been achieved by the development of resources to support these education activities. The HIV & HCV Education Projects has developed comprehensive resources in its core domains of HIV, Sexual Health and Viral Hepatitis and is able to develop specifically targeted resources for particular populations.
